El-P: "Flyentology"
Role: Animatic Editor
Studio: SuperFi & Nathan Love

This was one of my first professional projects and it set a really high bar personally for everything that followed.

In late 2006 I was asked by directors Dan Garcia & Nathan Love to edit the animatic for the upcoming "Flyentology" music video for hip-hop artist El-P. Working closely with the lead storyboard artists, I helped establish the timing of the narrative beats before the 3D team stepped in to previz and animate the final vision.

I had a vague familiarity with El-P at the time but my ears really perked up the moment I heard that Trent Reznor was featured on the track. As a lifelong Nine Inch Nails fanatic, the fact that I was touching anything remotely associated with Trent or NIN was beyond comprehension. The video eventually premiered on Adult Swim and years later I discovered a video of El-P playing the song live with one of my early animatics projected behind him.

Pretty good. Pretty, pretty good.
